When you have been riding as long as Fuzzy has, you learn pretty much everything you need to know about the industry. Having kids, he now has to make that call whether to push his kids into the sport or let them choose it on their own. If you’ve ever met Fuzzy, you know he is not the type of guy to push anyone into anything. Luckily for him, his son is into BMX and it’s something they can enjoy together. Now watch the video.
If you got tons of free product, what would you do with it? Apparently, making it as ugly as possible is one option. The owner of this bike got into a riding fight with his friend and ended up crashing flat on his back. (see top of picture for his lifeless corpse). Down and out, his friend threw the bike over a fence onto some train tracks. I would have done the same because this bike is so ugly. Long live the dew tour - bringing out the freaks after the competition.
When I was asked to attend the Dew Tour with my company last summer to assist them as they filmed events and interviewed athletes, I felt a bit overwhelmed. While I was new at the company, still unfamiliar with video shoots and how best to assist my coworkers, I was even more unfamiliar with action sports. Growing up a tomboy, I have always loved sports, and would often play basketball or baseball with my older brother. In recent years, however, I’ve become more a girlie girl. High heels and make-up are now more my cup of tea than a game of pick-up.
Since the day I lost my hot pink skateboard when I was 12, I’ve known almost nothing about the world of action sports. I had heard of moto-cross, but thought it was a type of car race. I knew about BMX bikes from when I was a kid, but had no idea of the tricks and stunts that they could yield. And I could more easily tell you the chemical make-up of hair pomade than tell you the difference between skate park and skate vert.Attending the Dew Tour last summer was a crash course in action sports 101. I got to witness some amazing stunts (Mike Spinner’s 1080), I saw some horrific accidents (Steven Murray’s debilitating crash) and I learned some new lingo: Indy grab, blunt slide.
The best experience for me, however, was getting to meet and talk with the athletes themselves. I learned that many of these guys are just kids, under the age of 18 and touring all over the world. Many of them are married and have children that they are apart from for several months of the year. And many are just pure characters who make everyone they come across laugh and feel welcome. I learned a lot about the action sports world that summer, but the lesson I will take with me is that anyone can become a fan of something new if they are willing to be open to it and to give it a chance.
While I was sitting in a bar with my friends in Salt Lake City one night a few months ago, a girlfriend of mine exclaimed, “Who’s that guy on TV? He’s hot!” I turned around, smiled, and replied, “That’s Allan Cooke. He rides BMX. I met him at the Dew Tour last summer. He’s a really nice guy.”My girlfriends stared at me with disbelief. I laughed as I thought about the many adventures and amazing people that I met on the Dew Tour, and how the experience helped turn me into an action sports fan. When Allan’s interview was over, we paid our billed, thanked our server, and headed out to buy new stilettos.

#1 My Morning Jacket Z
My Morning Jacket’s 2005 release Z, rules my life. The album that put them on the map contains only 10 tracks and each one is perfect. The opening track “Wordless Chorus” when singer Jim James comes in with his Beach Boys style crooning is enough to make you want to stay up until the sunrises or just move to Hawaii for the rest of your life. Do your friends a favor and show this album to them if they haven’t heard it yet. They’ll love you for it. Favorite Song: “Wordless Chorus”
#2 Kings Of Leon Aha Shake Heartbreak
I don’t know how you’re supposed to listen to this album and not be in a good mood. Everything this band writes is inspiring. All three Kings of Leon albums could be the soundtracks to any camping trip or outdoor party. Aha Shake Heartbreakis their second and catchiest of the three. Caleb Followill’s Hound Dog type singing is a bit jarring at first but once you get into the lyrics and music it will become your favorite aspect of Kings of Leon’s music. Favorite Song: “The Bucket”
#3 Porno For Pyros Good God’s Urge
Porno For Pyro’s second and final release Good God’s Urge is tropical adventure across all the greatest beaches in the world. Perry Farrell and company must have journeyed to some secret island and hung out for a couple months while writing this album. Every time I listen to Good God’s Urge it makes me wish I was a professional surfer but unfortunately I live in Utah so I have to go jet skiing and feel like a poser instead. Favorite Song: “Tahitian Moon”
When is the last time you did something for the first time? I’m not talking about trying a new food or visiting a new place. I’m talking about something hard that you have had to practice. For some losers (including myself) my first time accomplishments usually involve passing a level in a video game. Some of the tricks athletes do blow my mind. Check out this young chap landing his first 360 double tail whip for the first time ever. Email me with your best first-time moments – maybe they’ll make the blog.Dave @ lionseatingbananas.com
